Hi All
Well we did the beach trip yesterday and the tour was the most disorganised thing I have ever been on. Luckily the beach was really nice. The brochure said we would go to a lovely beach (that part was correct) we would receive a hat, refreshment on arrival, hat, deck chair, sunscreen etc. Well the bus was going to the temple we saw the day before, so they dropped 10 of us at a beach, miles from Athens, it took ages to get there. We were given a vodafone cap and basically left to it. The security guard took us to the beech restaurant, but they didn't know anything about us, so after about 20 minutes the manager comes out and him and one of the guys on out tour go back to see the lady at the gate, (you have to pay on Greek beaches). They come back tell us we can have a drink and someone will come to show us where we sit etc. So about 10 minutes after that the security dude turns up with out towels and leaves again. We got our drinks, then after being there about 40 minutes we all decided, stuff this and went and found somewhere to sit ourselves, the whole thing was a debacle, but the beach was nice, overcrowded, but nice. I am not used to the beach being this busy. I am sure Bondi etc get busy like this, but none of the beaches I have been to are anything like it, they are usually really quiet. Perhaps I don't go to the popular ones, but then shy would I when they are all nice. We ended up having just over 2 hours at the beach, the rest of the 5 hours was travelling... yep, it wasn't worth the tour, we could have visited a beech much closer to Athens and did it ourselves, well we basically did do it ourselves as it was, we just paid for the privilege of doing it ourselves... I took a couple of snaps so you can see where we were.
Last night we went to a restaurant that is just around the corner from our hotel, it was recommended by one of Kearie's friends back in Bendigo, thanks Tom, it was excellent. The food was brilliant and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was a very Greek restaurant and the lamb was to die for. It was a little more expensive than we had paid so far, but well worth it, we even left a nice tip... yeah, who says Aussies don't tip?? I still think tipping sucks, the restaurants and hotels that make all the money should pay their staff properly and not expect the customers to do it, but sometimes the staff are so good you want to give them a little extra. The restaurant is called "Alexander the Great" and it is 3 Megalou Alexadrou. If you are ever in Athens I thoroughly recommend it.
We are going shopping today and then will try to get some laundry done, we join our tour tomorrow. Kearie is still sleeping so I am waiting for her to wake up and then it is all go, go, go. There is shopping to be done.
I shall post some pics for you to see
Cheers til later

The beach was pretty crowded, but it was very nice
Kearie lazing about
Oh look, it's the Greek Godess again!! Oh no, my mistake, it's the little fat Aussie chick. It is so hard to tell the difference sometimes....
We passed another cemetery with Commonwealth soldiers, they always make me sad..

Hi Leonie. Soory I have noa responded the last time. I was away and had no access to a computer.i really thought that after all the walking you did at the start we would see a very slimp and taught Leonie, but after all the good food anf restaurants I have heard about, it will not happen. When our son Leigh was 21 he and a mate went to Greece and some of the islands, and they spent a lot of time patrolling the beaches as most of the girl were nude. This was in 1988 and I don't think they had to pay to do it. Those military cemeteries are a very sad place aren't they. I liked the bit where you said Kearie was still in bed "but" we were packing to move on. Good if you can get away with it Kearie. WE are off to Manang in a week or so I will take some paint and visit Kates grave. I hear it is need of help. I am pleased you are sll having a good time.
