Hi, bet that got you attention... And it's true. Kearie and I have been playing Monopoly and I spend a remarkable amount of time in the clink, but managed to win anyway, despite my obviously dubious character... Which once again makes me wonder about the validity of the old saying "Crime doesn't pay." as apparently it does..
We had a quiet day yesterday, we watched the changing of the guard at the Parliament building, they sure do march funny. The poor guards were dressed in what I can only describe as really hot uniforms, they were sweating like you wouldn't believe and their commanding officer had to actually wipe the sweat from their faces as they are not allowed move, it was an eye opener. Luckily they only have to do it for an hour at a time as the changing of the guard happens every hour, but it would have to, or they would be passing out all over the place. It was interesting to watch
The guard houses they stand beside, the uniforms have thick leggings, really hot for Greece weather I would think.
The new guards arriving
The old guards leaving, and yes they really do march like that. All legs raised and fists extended, it was quite something to watch..
We then brought a fan each, before walking through the park, it was still only 9 am, but the heat was already pretty hard to bear. We saw the ruins of a temple to Zeus and what remains of the gate to the temple, they are really awesome ruins and it still makes me wonder exactly what the Greeks have done since.
The remains of the gate to Zeus's temple
The remains of the temple itself. I love this stuff...
Part of the park we walked through to get to the temple. It was a very nice park, and a little cooler to walk through than the paved streets.
After our stroll we had lunch in one of the roadside restaurants. After every meal we have had in a Greek restaurant they give you a free cake, or dessert of some kind, it is awesome. The night restaurant we have been using also give you a free drink, it is really refreshing and has a little alcohol in it, we really like it. It is also supposed to help with your digestion, which we hope it does, 'cause we have been eating like a couple of little piggy's, the food is delicious...
We then shopped for a good part of the afternoon, before returning to our hotel to collect our dirty laundry. The plan was to use a local Laundrette, alas, the laundrette ended up being like a dry cleaners, where you leave your clothes and it costs you a fortune. Nobody bothered to serve us and as we worked out what it was ourselves, we decided to take our dirty laundry back home with us. We shall endeavour to do it by hand tonight, or tomorrow night. I have been caught by those laundry's last time I was in Europe, they don't tell you the price and then charge you a ridiculous price when you pick it up. I think it cost my girlfriend and I something like $30, 30 years ago, it was highway robbery and I am not doing it again. So hand wash and pray it dries is the road I'm taking. With the heat in Greece the drying shouldn't take too long, gee it's hot. Really muggy, which I hate, but never mind, all the restaurants have these fans that blow misty water, they are Divine, I must look into getting one of those when I get back, they really cool things down.
Kearie is still sleeping, we are packing this morning to change to the tour hotel, our tour kicks off from there tonight at about 6pm with a dinner or something. I hope it is as good as I am anticipating, I am really looking forward to this tour, and letting someone else do all the organising for a change, it should be delightful.
Cheers for now
Your little convict friend
Lones....
